When you think of Trailer Food Tuesdays, what comes to mind? Austin Food Trailers of course, a beautiful view of Downtown Austin, yummy drinks, great music, an overall relaxing evening. Maybe it’s your designated cheat day for the week, or maybe it’s something you avoid all together because of the many tantalizing temptations that present themselves to you.

Even if you just walk through the Long Center Terrace. All the delicious smells will assault your senses and break all the willpower you’ve ever had! Trust me, it’s the truth, there’s no fighting it! I don’t blame you…

There is hope however, and no, staying at home isn’t your only option!

Don’t avoid Trailer Food Tuesday because you’re watching your waistline. Quite the contrary, actually, come to Trailer Food Tuesday because  Camp Gladiator will set you up for success and give you a chance to indulge in all the yummies, guilt free.

After their workout, you’ll feel like you’ve earned your dinner ten fold!

Camp Gladiator

I was a little nervous going into the exercise. I’ve never been athletic to begin with, and writing for Austin Food Trailers certainly doesn’t help matters. I do however, enjoy working out and getting my butt kicked into shape, so I figured, why not, it’ll be a good story at the very least.

The CG Culture

To start with, the Camp Gladiator trainers are super cool. Everyone’s really friendly and make you feel like you’ve been working out with them for ages. The people who work out there are also very supportive, energetic, and happy. Aside from the workout, it’s just a really great environment to be in.

Mister Fruit Cup – Traditional Mexican

The Workout

The workout is structured in such a way that everyone gets what they need out of it. For the mega athletes, there are options to maximize each move to the MAX!!!  For those of us who start wheezing and hobbling around like wounded animals after just the warmup, (i.e. me….), there are also modifications that will keep you in the mix, working out, and pacing yourself, so you don’t burn out in the first 5 min!

On top of the meticulous group and community building in the program, their workouts feature fun partner activities and games. The class is so fun it goes by quickly!

I really enjoyed the class and I’m going to take advantage of the special they’re running next month for their 4 year anniversary. 4 Weeks for $50! Check out the Camp Gladiator Facebook Promotion if you’re interested in joining me!

Ok… OK! Enough with the exercising, what about the important stuff?!?

After the class I had the sincerest of intentions of having a healthy meal and guiding our readers through my experience. I would have succeeded too if my boyfriend hadn’t brought over a delicious smelling plate of Tommy Want Wingy’s Chicken Lollipops!

I would have resisted normally, but I’ve never had Tommy Want Wingy and I felt like it was my implicit duty as an Austin Food Trailer blogger to take the presented opportunity and write about this trailer… I know…. Poor Me!

Tommy Want Wingy is out of this world! To start with, their wings are atypical because they come partially deboned, so you end up with a “Chicken Lollipop.” The chefs have a technique for pulling out one of the flapper bones so that the super tender and juicy meat slides right off the remaining bone.

If the preparation wasn’t amazing enough, their sauces are fantastic! We tried the Spicy Pineapple and Original Flavor. The pineapple is everything you could hope for, sweet, spicy, with just a little tang. Just perfect. The Original on the other hand, was what really made an impression! It’s a chili/honey sauce that just completely redefines chicken wings. It gives them a level of flavor and depth you probably have never experienced from this bar food staple.

I’m very intrigued by this trailer and will come back to try out all of the other flavors in the months to come. Check them out at the Barton Springs Neighborhood Food Court on Jessie Street whenever you’ve got a hankering for wings.

TommyWantWingyAustinTrailerFoodTuesday 300x191 Camp Gladiator Austin @ Trailer Food TuesdaysBarton Springs Neighborhood Food Court seems to be a hotbed of great food trailers! While trying to keep to my “healthy plan” I beelined for “Mister Fruit Cup” and ordered a Traditional Mexican Cup. This cup comes with Pineapple, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Orange, Cucumber, Chili Lime Seasoning, Lime Juice, and Coconut Flakes.

The cup came out beautifully arranged and all the fruits where fresh, crisp and sweet, I particularly enjoyed the Chili Lime seasoning on the watermelon which developed a bright flavor contrast.

“Mister Fruit Cup,” put a special emphasis on organic fruits and veggies this Trailer Food Tuesday, and took the time to find the perfect vendors for his flavor collage. They are a great option if you’re looking for a healthy dish. You’ll get all the creativity and ingenuity that Trailer Food Tuesday Trucks are known for, without the calories! They’re a really great addition to the lineup, I hope to see them again!

Before my plan for eating healthy got derailed, I was eyeing Peached Tortilla‘s Chinese BBQ Tofu which comes with crispy tofu, sautéed red peppers and onions, asian slaw, chinese BBQ sauce, and cilantro. So, although I failed at this particular juncture, there are definitely smart choices to be made without sacrificing any of the fun or flavor! If you’re posting pictures of any of these or other food trailers tag #ATXFoodTrailers in your pics! We love to see what you’re eating! See you at next month’s Trailer Food Tuesdays!
